Game Play Info: Displayed Modified combat values are rounded down to a whole number, but the odds ratio uses the actual numbers, which are in the 1000’s. As an example, a zero could be anywhere between an actual 0.0 and 999. Same for 1, which could be between 1000 and 1999. To get a better feel for the actual numbers, divide the attackers modified combat value by the attacker’s side of the odds ratio. So if final modified combat values of 250 and 1 resulted in an odds ratio of 167.0:1, which left you scratching your head, divide 250 by 167 and you get 1.497, meaning that the defenders’ actual modified combat value was approximately 1500, which was then rounded down to 1. Of course this is only a rough approximation, since the attacker's combat value was actually somewhere between 25000 and 25999. You may also see a zero in the odds ratio, meaning that the unit was so weakened during the battle that its real (not rounded down) modified CV was zero.

Units that have no hex to retreat to and that are not in an undamaged port may have their CV divided by 10 (depends on unit morale).

Game Play Info: The Soviet ability to force a retreat at a 1:1 modified combat ratio may seem a huge advantage, but remember that the attack doctrine that allows this also normally results in lower final CV due to more exposure to defensive fire causing additional casualties. Also recall the multiplying impact of fort levels on defensive CV and the fact that engineer ground elements can reduce man made fort levels during the battle. For the Soviets, getting those sappers in action is the only way to reduce fort levels if the defender is not forced to retreat and can make the difference in reaching the elusive 1:1 ratio. An Axis attack that, gets close, but no cigar, to that 2:1 CV ratio required to win still has chance of reducing fort levels, which will be further enhanced if engineers are participating. Bottom line - make sure you have some engineers in the attack force if you are going up against hexes with high man made fort levels!

Generic Vehicles: Generic organic unit vehicles can be damaged or destroyed as a result of combat.

Disabled Men: Permanent losses are not 100 percent permanent, because one percent of the men listed as disabled are returned to the manpower pool per turn. Note that although some disabled troops return to duty, since their devices were destroyed and they only slowly return to duty, as long as they have not returned to duty they still count for victory purposes and are considered "permanent" losses.

Soviet Partisans: Ground elements that form partisan units are not counted in the permanent losses for the Soviets, although they will be displayed in the "Recent Battle and Non-Combat Casualties" column for that particular battle.

Il combattimento in War in the East parte 5 - General Ground Combat Rules parte 3

Nuovi screenshots di War in the West

Main Features

* The game covers July 1943 to July 1945.
* Each turn lasts one week.
* Each hex covers 10 miles.
* The map is an enormous 36,000 hexes!
* It is an enhanced War in the East system with more comprehensive air and naval operations and supply systems.
* Scale is Division/Brigade/Regiment with supporting Battalions, but modeled down to the last man, tank and gun.
* There are 14 Allied and 5 Axis nationalities in the game.
* It includes a fully featured scenario editor
* There are optional rules to allow you to control the allocation of forces to the east front, or let it stay historical. If you manage it by hand, allocating troops slows the Soviet advance and removing them hastens it, all shown on a global strategy map.
* The game includes 3 main campaigns and 7-9 smaller scenarios.

Major Changes from War in the East

Here is a summary of the main changes since War in the East and they'll be explored in more detail below.
I. Map
II. Air War
III. Logistics
IV. Weather
V. Axis Garrisons
VI. East Front Control Option
VII. Amphibious and Airborne Landing Rules
VIII. Multi-role Support Units
IX. Victory Conditions

I. Map

 Huge size (36k hexes versus 25k for WitE).
 New terrain types for bocage, tundra, desert, sand, escarpment/impassable, ferries.
 Road Quality by Country
 Improved weather graphics showing all effects; ground, air and water (ice).
 Improved map projection that minimizes map distortion effects caused by using a flat map for a round world.
 The map is built as a part of an enormous War in Europe map which is 378x355 hexes, so is a building block to a future "mega on an unprecedented scale" game (134k hexes)
 New tile generated map will make it easier for us to complete the full map, and/or revise map data as needed.

II. Air War
Detailed Strategic Bombing and improvements to non-ground support missions

 Different system/ execution phase for air based on air directives to air force HQs
 Fixed airfields on map withadditional construction possible
 More types of missions
– Ground Support
– Ground Attack (interdiction of units/supply/rail, airfield attack, ground unit attack)
– Strategic Bombing
– Reconnaissance
– Air Superiority
– Naval Patrol
 Improved resolution of interdiction, less gaminess in airfield bombing and fighter sweeps

III. Logistics
More realism plus supply issues of invasions

IV. Weather
More realism and granularity in weather generation and effects

 8 Weather Zones
 6 Ground Conditions
 6 Air Conditions
 Ice Conditions in Rivers
 Weather determined by combination of weather zones and 5 possible weather fronts that move across the map

V. Axis Garrisons

 Garrison Regions - requires minimum garrisons in combat value of troops – changes over time and with major events.
 Garrison Cities - requires security units and a large garrison – also changes over time.
 Not fulfilling garrison requirements will increase partisan attacks on rail in the area as well as costing victory points.

VI. East Front Control Option
(For Long Campaigns)
a. East Front Screen provides info on German forces, front line and Soviet offensive potential.
b. Units may be moved between fronts. Player chooses which if any German units on the East Front are pulled back to refit.
c. Soviet controlled hexes are shown on the map.
d. When using EFC Option, game ends when Berlin falls or can last until the end of July 1945. When not using the EFC Option the game ends in early May 1945 (or earlier if Allies capture Berlin) and movement of units between fronts is based on historical movements.

VII. Amphibious and Airborne Landing Rules

 Amphibious and Airborne Prep Points and Target Hexes
 Airpower Impact on Naval Movement
 Amphibious HQs with Naval Support and Temporary Ports
 Commando and Ranger supporting landings
 Separate Amphibious and supporting airborne landing phase at start of other player’s turn
 Coordinated airborne landings with non-amphibious forces during own turn

VIII. Multi-role Support Units

 Support units that can switch between off-map support and on map unit status
 Large Multi-role units divide into 3 parts when made support units (break regiment into 3 battalions)
 Support ranger and commando units have special amphibious abilities

IX. Victory Conditions

 Factors Considered in Campaign Victory Conditions
- Cities Controlled Each Turn
- Damage From Allied Strategic Bombing
- Partisan Activity (failure of Axis to garrison)
- Allied Casualties
- Failure To Achieve Italian and French Beachheads
- Political Targets (U-boat and V-weapon factories and V-weapon launch sites)
- Timing of Fall of Berlin

The Future: War in the … and beyond
• War in the East 2.0 - a remake of War in the East using the War in the West engine and new map system (another building block foe the mega game).
• War in the West 1940 (France/Norway/Med)
• War in the West 1941-43 (Mediterranean)
• War in Europe - the largest game ever conceived!
• World at War: A World Divided – iPad
• Tactical WWII game ala Steel Panthers - Gary mentioned Steel Panthers was the game he most enjoyed creating in his career.

Il combattimento in War in the East parte 5 - General Ground Combat Rules parte 2

Il combattimento in War in the East parte 5 - General Ground Combat Rules parte 1

the type of attack (hasty or deliberate), enemy unit detection level (DL), defending fortification modifier, attacking unit morale and supply status (especially ammo), individual ground element experience, fatigue, ammo usage and range of their equipped devices, and leader initiative and ground combat rating (mech or infantry) checks

The number of shots taken, the ability to hit the target, and for AFV and combat vehicles where the target is hit, are dependent on the same factors listed above as well as ground element speed, size, and the firing devices accuracy, rate of fire, and blast radius against soft targets.

v1.04.14 - April 28, 2011
Added code to make low experience combat elements expend more ammo when they fire.

 v1.04.28 - June 8, 2011
Added a fire penalty in combat when there is a large number of attacking units. The force value of the attacking side is calculated using the following values for each non-support, non-artillery division unit attacking:

  Corps 15
  Division 9
 Brigade 5 (unless the brigade has less than 2000 men in which case it is 3)
  Regiment 3

Once the force value exceeds 28 there is a chance that elements will not get to fire during combat. Artillery elements are much less effected (only impacted at closer ranges in combat), and the chance that elements will not fire increases as the force value increases. In general though, adding more units should result in more elements firing, but a lower percentage of the total elements will generally be firing as the force increases. The CV values of the attacking units are not changed by this rule.

v1.06.22 - November 29, 2012
Changes to Combat Formulas
a) Reduced the fire of artillery elements during bombardment (2-hex) combat (primarily reduced the fire of defending artillery).
b) Defensive fire will be reduced to conserve ammunition if the attacker is relatively very small (roughly less than half the size of the defender).
c) If an artillery element is firing with its non-main gun devices only, 1/10 of the standard ammunition is used.
d) Removed very large ammo usage spikes by artillery ground elements in battle.

sabato 20 luglio 2013

 Corps =15
 Division = 9
 Brigade = 5
 Regiment = 3

Il combattimento in War in the East parte 2 - Fortification Defensive Modifier parte 3

Il combattimento in War in the East parte 2 - Fortification Defensive Modifier parte 2

Il combattimento in War in the East parte 2 - Fortification Defensive Modifier parte 1

Il combattimento in War in the East parte 1

1. Initiate battle (see section 5.3.1 regarding use of movement mode (F1) to attack)
2. Determine fortification defense modifier from terrain and fortification level (15.3)
3. Commit support units (15.4)
4. Calculate Combat Values (CV) and odds ratio for reserve commitment (15.5)
5. Commit reserve units (Defender first, then Attacker) (15.5)
6. Calculate initial CV's and odds ratio (15.6.2)
7. Conduct battle
    A. Air Mission sub-phase (16)
        (1) Phasing player Air Group units committed for ground support [mission]
        (2) Non-phasing player Air Group units committed for air intercept
        (3) Air to Air combat
        (4) Ground to Air (AA) and Air to Ground combat
    B. Ground Combat sub-phase (15.6.1)
8. Calculate final CV and odds ratio (15.8)
9. Determine Winner and Loser (15.8)
       A. If Defender lost, determine retreat result (15.9)
Could be retreat, rout and displacement move (15.10), shatter, or surrender
            retreat attrition (15.11)

Nuovi turni a War in the East

http://www.matrixgames.com/news/1079/War.in.the.East:.Lost.Battles.is.here!

Qui il change log della nuova patch:

"
V1.07.08– May 16, 2013

• New Features and Rule Changes

1. Formula Change - Greatly reduced the chance that a unit below its national morale will receive the die(10% of national morale) increase in morale.

• Bug Fixes

1. Fixed a bug that was allowing non-recon air groups to transfer to German Army Airbases (the new rule created in 1.07.07 was not working correctly).
2. Fixed a bug where the “Restore ground element upgrade paths” question was not showing up properly during Multiplayer games.

• Data and Scenario Changes

1. In games where the AI is playing the Axis side, the Soviet player will be asked whether to restore ground element upgrade paths per the change in version 1.07.07. Also, in games started with version 1.07.07 or later, the restore question will not be asked (as the upgrade paths have already been reinstated in the data).
2. Correction for the 1.07.07 readme:
Restored 2 ground element upgrade paths listed below (these are restored along with the German upgrade paths in existing games if the player answers yes to the question):
0299 Rifle Squad (Hungarian) to 0298 Rifle Squad (Hungarian)
0316 Rifle Squad (Slovakian) to 0315 Rifle Squad (Slovakian)

V1.07.07– April 29, 2013

• New Features and Rule Changes

1. New Rule - Only recon air groups may be transferred to German Army Airbases. No air groups may be assigned directly from the National Reserve to German Army Airbases.

• Data and Scenario Changes

3. Restored four German ground element upgrade paths listed below. In existing games, the German player will be asked once whether they wish to “Restore Ground Element Upgrade Paths”. If yes, then the upgrade paths below will be set, otherwise the ground elements will remain with no upgrade path and the player will not be asked again.
0081 Rifle Squad upgrades to 0082 Rifle Squad
0084 Pioneer Squad upgrades to 0085 Pioneer Squad
0094 Motorized Rifle Squad upgrades to 0096 Motorized Rifle Squad
0114 Fallschirmjager Squad upgrades to 0115 Fallschirmjager Squad
4. Corrected start date of the Soviet 42 Flamethrower Company (OB 383) from 5/42 to 7/42.
5. Minor changes to recently added German leaders.
6. Restored 2 ground element upgrade paths listed below:
0298 Rifle Squad (Hungarian) to 0299 Rifle Squad (Hungarian)
0315 Rifle Squad (Slovakian) to 0316 Rifle Squad (Slovakian)

V1.07.06– April 12, 2013

• New Features and Rule Changes

1. Rule Clarifications – HQ and airbase units do not receive the motorized bonus to national morale. Units do not gain morale while routed. Units may only gain morale outside of combat if their morale is less than 10 points above their national morale, or less than 50, whichever is greater.

• Bug Fixes

1. Fixed a bug that prevented a part of rule 9.1.1 from functioning correctly. Units that were below their national morale were not getting the chance to gain morale simply due to the fact that they were below the national morale. Now they get the chance, and if they go up (they must pass various checks), they will receive an increase of die(10% of their national morale), but not to exceed the national morale.
2. Fixed a bug that prevented Soviet players from being able to create new flak units at cities.

V1.07.04– April 4, 2013

• New Features and Rule Changes
